Buyer guide · Design support
Can a packaging supplier help with design?
Yes, but “design” can mean several different services. A packaging supplier can help define the structure, create or check a dieline, adapt supplied artwork and prepare production files. Full brand strategy, naming, illustration or a new visual identity normally requires a separately scoped creative-design service.
Submit a design brief
Checklist
What to include in a packaging design brief
- Packed product dimensions and weight
- How the pack opens, displays and ships
- Required packaging categories and quantities
- Brand guidelines, logo and approved assets
- Reference packs and preferred visual direction
- Mandatory text, barcode and compliance content
- Materials, finishes and target budget
- Sample approval and delivery dates
Design workflow
Six steps from product information to production artwork
1. Define the use case
Confirm the packed product, retail or e-commerce channel, protection needs, opening sequence, quantity, budget and target date.
2. Select the structure
Recommend an existing structure or develop a dieline around product size, material, assembly, transport and display requirements.
3. Prepare the artwork area
Mark bleed, folds, cuts, glue zones, safe areas, windows and finishing layers so visual content is placed correctly.
4. Adapt supplied design
Fit approved logos, text and graphics to the structure, check hierarchy and flag content that may fold, trim or become unreadable.
5. Run production checks
Review fonts, linked images, resolution, overprint, spot colours, barcode size, finishing plates and version control before output.
6. Approve a physical sample
Confirm structure, content, colour direction, finish and assembly on the appropriate sample before freezing the bulk-production file.
Service boundaries
Four levels of packaging design support
Structure recommendation
Choose or adjust a practical box, bag, tag or insert structure around the product and delivery conditions.
Dieline preparation
Create or verify production geometry, folds, cut lines, glue areas and key dimensions.
Artwork adaptation
Place buyer-approved visual assets on the dieline and prepare print and finishing layers.
Full creative direction
Brand strategy, naming, illustration, photography and a new visual identity require a separate brief, schedule and fee.
FAQ
Packaging design questions buyers often ask
Can you start if I only have a product and logo?
Yes. We can first define the structure and required content, then confirm whether simple artwork adaptation is sufficient or a separate creative-design brief is needed.
Can you check a file made by our own designer?
Yes. We can provide the dieline and check bleed, folds, cuts, resolution, fonts, spot colours and finishing layers before sampling.
Which artwork file formats are preferred?
Editable vector files such as AI or print-ready PDF are normally preferred. Linked images, fonts and colour references should be supplied where applicable.
Does design support include unlimited revisions?
No. The agreed scope should state deliverables, revision rounds and approval responsibilities; structural changes after artwork placement can create additional work.
